Preparing for Pregnancy
For some people it will be the first time. For others, they will have had painful past experiences, such as miscarriage and terminations, and this trauma may or may not have been processed.
Along with the talks you have with your partner about budgets, health, vitamins and cars, take time every week to look at how you are feeling inside about the prospect of becoming a mum.
I work with my clients to look at their unconscious patterning – what were their parents like? Are they scared of becoming a mum? Is their partner feeling anxious about becoming a dad? Do they have faith in their body to fall pregnant, or have they lost trust that it will happen due to past pain?
Along with talking therapy, we practice tools that help their subconscious and unconscious blocks to falling pregnant, such as tapping (working with the meridians) and guided relaxations. This allows the body to process fears, doubts and past pain, and to implant positive beliefs for the road ahead. It is also very relaxing.
Helping your body produce calming chemicals in your body can be a real boost to your chances of falling pregnant. While your cortisol will most likely spike dramatically if someone says to you “relax, it will happen…”, there is truth to that statement.
When our bodies are under chronic stress and anxiety, our body will adjust its’ resources to cope with whatever is causing the stress. This is part of going into the ‘fight or flight’ response, and in our busy worlds is often caused by things like work, traffic, money and those other life stressors.
What this means is it ‘dials down’ on those systems that aren’t immediately needed in the body’s opinion. This includes the digestive system, the immune system and the fertility system. As part of your preparation process it would be wise to do an audit of your life and see where you can introduce more ease, to help these systems come back online fully.
If reading this makes you feel even more stressed (!), come and talk to me about it.
