Candida is a type of fungus. A Candida fungal infection is generally due to the overgrowth of Candida. This is referred to as Candidiasis. Candidiasis as an infection can encompass a broad range of clinical symptoms and signs. Therefore, providing information as to how superficial, deep or chronic the infection may be.
What options are there with testing?
To test for Candida this can be either performed by blood or by a stool sample. There are a few labs we use. However, most will require either blood collection or a stool sample to be posted to the lab for testing. Candida testing can also be incorporated into a Complete Digestive Stool Analysis or Allergy Test.
Any of our recommended stool tests are non-invasive and can be performed in the privacy of your home. Our Darling Health Naturopath’s would give you a test kit to take home after the consultation, or a test kit would be requested to be posted to you. The test kit includes all instructions and easy to use collection equipment to perform the sampling very efficiently.
There are different methods depending on which test you are required to test for. Once completed either a courier will collect the sample or you will need to post it in a provided satchel. Both methods will be delivered to the lab for analysis, it just depends on which lab your Naturopath wishes to use. Once the results have been reported your practitioner will explain the results in detail in a consultation and provide the treatment necessary to target the problem and restore gastrointestinal health.
What will the results show?
The end results will be a sample analysed by a laboratory, which will assess the level of Candida antibodies present in your gastrointestinal tract. This will allow your Darling Health Naturopath to assess the degree of Candida and provide a treatment plan to help restore your gut health and eliminate the overgrowth of Candida.
In regards to blood testing verse stool samples we do prefer stool sampling. it is a very accurate method of testing to assist in determine the levels of Candida and infection. A Candida blood test can produce false negative results, whereas the stool sample provides information on Candida antibodies.
